GHD Platinum Review

My love affair with GHD began way back in 2003.

I was in a year 11 maths lesson and noticed that a girl who usually had wavy untamable hair instead had straight, sleek and shiny locks. I asked her what she’d used and she told me they were electric hair straighteners called GHD. I practically ran home from school, raided my piggy bank of birthday and Christmas money I’d saved up, gave it to my Dad and asked him to order them for me on his credit card.

That weekend when the postman arrived and dropped off the parcel, I pulled the packaging off as quickly as I could, plugged them in and a  few seconds later started using them on my hair. I literally couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I still vividly remember running to my mum and saying, “Look at my hair, I can’t believe how straight and shiny it is! It’s like some kind of magic!”

From that moment onwards, they have been my favourite hair product. I use them most days and despite the rumours, they’ve never damaged my hair, probably because I use mythic oil on my hair as well.

A couple of years ago, I switched from the regular GHD’s (which are still amazing) to GHD platinum. The main differences are that the GHD Platinum turns itself off after 30 minutes if it’s not being used (this is great for me as I always worry I’ve not turned them off when I’ve left the house, even though I checked at least three times!), they seem to glide over the hair even more easily and the hinge is flexible, so it’s easy on the wrist when using the straighteners.

They’re not exactly cheap, they cost around £150 but they last for years and they are well worth it.

All in all, I can’t live without them. 15 years later and I’m still in love!
